Podróże małe i duże

Wystawa powstała w ramach festiwalu Sztuka do rzeczy - Design w
Krakowie, którego tegorocznym hasłem są Relacje, oraz towarzyszy
Międzynarodowej Konferencji Naukowej Tabula Itineraria. Zbiory
kartograficzne w bibliotekach, muzeach, archiwach i kolekcjach
prywatnych, organizowanej przez Bibliotekę Naukową PAU i PAN w
Krakowie i Polską Akademię Nauk.

Ekspozycja ukazuje, w jaki sposób poprzez zabawki geograficzne i
kartograficzne, gry i pomoce szkolne dzieci dawniej poznawały świat,
rozwijały ciekawość i kształtowały wyobraźnię geograficzną. Na
wystawie zobaczyć można m.in. globusy (w tym jedyny znany egzemplarz
pierwszego globusa polskojęzycznego z lat 40. XIX w.), puzzle i gry
planszowe o tematyce podróżniczej, atlasy szkolne, kompasy, mapy nieba
oraz dawne środki transportu takie jak lokomotywy, automobile, balony
czy samoloty.

Prezentowane zbiory mają wyjątkowo specjalistyczny charakter - wiele
eksponatów to unikatowe, nieznane dotąd naukowcom zabytki kultury
dziecięcej i edukacji geograficznej. Choć są to przedmioty
dziecięce, stanowią cenne i nieocenione źródło ikonograficzne dla
badaczy. Dzięki działalności Fundacji Zbiorów Rodziny Sosenków oraz
Muzeum Zabawek w Krakowie zbiory te ujawniają swój niezwykły
potencjał naukowy i poznawczy.

Wystawie towarzyszyć będą oprowadzania kuratorskie po ekspozycji i
lekcje muzealne. Podczas wernisażu odbędzie się także warsztat
kreatywny dla dzieci.

The exhibition was created as part of the Art for Things – Design in Krakow festival, whose theme this year is Relationships, and accompanies the International Academic Conference Tabula Itineraria. Cartographic Collections in Libraries, Museums, Archives, and Private Collections, organized by the PAU and PAN Scientific Library in Krakow and the Polish Academy of Sciences.

The exhibition shows how, through geographical and cartographic toys, games, and educational aids, children in the past learned about the world, developed curiosity, and shaped their geographical imagination. Among the exhibits are globes (including the only known copy of the first Polish-language globe from the 1840s), puzzles and board games with travel themes, school atlases, compasses, celestial maps, and models of historic means of transport such as locomotives, automobiles, balloons, and airplanes.

The collections presented have a highly specialized character — many of the exhibits are unique, previously unknown artifacts of children’s culture and geographical education. Although these are children’s items, they represent valuable and irreplaceable iconographic sources for researchers. Thanks to the efforts of the Sosenko Family Collection Foundation and the Museum of Toys in Krakow, these collections reveal their remarkable scientific and educational potential.

The exhibition will be accompanied by curator-led tours and museum lessons. During the opening event, there will also be a creative workshop for children.
