83. Konkurs szopek krakowskich/ 83rd Annual Cracovian Nativity Scenes Competition

Już po raz 83. na krakowskim Rynku pojawią się wielobarwne szopki oraz ich twórcy, a  po prezentacji przepiękne konstrukcje, biorące udział w konkursie, zostaną przeniesione do Pałacu Krzysztofory.

Fenomen szopki krakowskiej zrodził się w Krakowie, historycznej stolicy Polski. Taka forma szopki wykształciła się w XIX wieku. Rozpropagowana w XX wieku i do dziś kultywowana stała się wzorem dla współczesnych dzieł. Rozwój rzemiosła szopkarskiego miał podłoże ekonomiczne – murarze z krakowskich przedmieść w martwym okresie zimowym szukali dodatkowych możliwości zarobku.

Jak co roku  szopkarze przyniosą swoje prace na Rynek Główny i ustawią je na stopniach pomnika Adama Mickiewicza, gdzie można je będzie podziwiać od 10.00 do 12.00. Po hejnale krakowskim o godz. 12.00 wyruszy korowód szopek wokół Rynku prowadzony przez kapelę ludową z Bronowic, który prowadzi na scenę, gdzie szopki zostaną zaprezentowane. Następnie twórcy przyniosą swoje dzieła do Pałacu Krzysztofory, gdzie zostaną ocenione przez Jury, składające się m.in. z historyków, etnografów, historyków sztuki, architektów i plastyków.

For the 83rd time, colourful nativity scenes and their creators will appear in Krakow's Main Market Square, and after the presentation, the beautiful constructions taking part in the competition will be moved to Krzysztofory Palace.

The phenomenon of the Cracovian nativity scene was born in Krakow, the historic capital of Poland. This form of nativity scene developed in the 19th century. Popularised in the 20th century and still cultivated today, it has become a model for contemporary works. The development of the nativity scene trade was economically motivated - bricklayers from the Krakow suburbs were looking for additional income opportunities in the dead of winter.

As every year, nativity scene makers will bring their works to the main Market Square and place them on the steps of the Adam Mickiewicz Monument, where they can be admired from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. After the Krakow bugle call at 12.00, a procession of nativity scenes will set off around the square, led by a folk band from Bronowice, leading to the stage where they will be presented. Afterwards, the artists will bring their works to Krzysztofory Palace, where they will be judged by a jury consisting of, among others, historians, ethnographers, art historians, architects and visual artists.
