Debil

Debil to prapremierowa realizacja dramatu uhonorowanego Gdyńską Nagrodą Dramaturgiczną za najlepszy tekst 2020 roku, dokonana w Teatrze im. J. Słowackiego. Dramatu, który w przewrotny i dowcipny sposób porusza złożony temat osób z niepełnosprawnością i temat świata, który próbuje – a czasem nie próbuje wcale – z tym tematem dialogować. A dialogować trzeba; byle robić to mądrze, z empatią i czułością. To będzie opowieść o Kubie. O mężczyźnie z niepełnosprawnością intelektualną, który ma „czterdzieści lat skończone”. Kuba lubi zupę, swoich przyjaciół ze Stumilowego Lasu i chce żeby wszyscy byli "dobzi". Kuba nie lubi bigosu, schodów i złych ludzi. Dlatego Kuba marzy, by zmienić świat, by zrobić go lepszym. I kiedy zdobywa taką możliwość, to robi to. Tak jak potrafi.

Spektakl jest próbą oddania głosu niepełnosprawnemu mężczyźnie, ale ze świadomością, że nie mamy dostępu do jego świata wyobraźni i wrażliwości. Obraz sceniczny jest światem wykreowanym, sztucznym i abstrakcyjnym, a niepełnosprawność jest oddana symbolicznie z naciskiem na kreowanie jej na potrzeby spektaklu, nie oddając i nie aspirując do oddania >prawdy psychologicznej<” – Piotr Ratajczak, reżyser.

“‘Debil’ is the world premiere production of the drama honoured with the Gdynia Drama Award for the best text of 2020, performed at the Juliusz Słowacki  Theatre. A drama that, in a perverse and witty way, deals with the complex subject of people with disabilities and the subject of a world that tries – and sometimes doesn't try at all – to conduct a dialogue with this subject. And dialogue is necessary, as long as it is done wisely, with empathy and sensitivity. This will be a story about Kuba. About a man with an intellectual disability who is "has turned forty". Kuba likes soup, his friends from the Hundred Acre Wood and wants them all to be "gud piple". Kuba doesn't like bigos, stairs or bad people. That's why Kuba dreams of changing the world to make it a better place. And when he gets the opportunity, he does it. Any way he can.

The play is an attempt to give voice to a disabled man, but with the knowledge that we do not have access to his world of imagination and sensitivity. The stage image is a contrived, artificial and abstract world, and the disability is rendered symbolically with an emphasis on creating it for the sake of the performance, without rendering or aspiring to render the psychological truth," Piotr Ratajczak, director.
