Wystawa Pawła Orłowskiego - "To nie jest forma"/ Paweł Orłowski Exhibition — "This Is Not a Form"

Najnowszy cykl Pawła Orłowskiego inspirowany jest testami Hermanna Rorschacha – metodą projekcyjną opartą na interpretacji abstrakcyjnych plam atramentowych. W klasycznym teście obraz nie posiada jednego znaczenia, a mimo to niemal automatycznie uruchamia w odbiorcy potrzebę rozpoznania i nazwania tego, co widzi. To właśnie ten mechanizm percepcji staje się punktem wyjścia dla wystawy.

Tytuł To nie jest forma nawiązuje do słynnej pracy René Magritte’a Ceci n’est pas une pipe (To nie jest fajka) z 1929 roku. Podobnie jak surrealista, Orłowski podważa nasze przyzwyczajenie do utożsamiania obrazu z jego znaczeniem. Jego obiekty nie przedstawiają konkretnych form – stają się raczej narzędziami projekcji, uruchamiającymi indywidualne skojarzenia i interpretacje widza.

Proces pracy rozpoczyna się od tworzenia symetrycznych odbitek atramentowych, które następnie artysta przekłada na język rzeźby: wycina je w blasze, spawa i poddaje ciśnieniowemu formowaniu. Istotną rolę odgrywa tu napięcie pomiędzy kontrolą a przypadkiem. Forma pozostaje częściowo nieprzewidywalna, wymykając się jednoznacznemu rozpoznaniu.

W przeciwieństwie do wcześniejszych geometrycznych realizacji Orłowskiego, nowy cykl stanowi świadome odejście od precyzyjnego projektowania i pełnej kontroli nad obiektem. Artysta rezygnuje z narzucania znaczeń, pozostawiając widza sam na sam z formą i własnym mechanizmem interpretacyjnym.

Prezentowane rzeźby funkcjonują jak perceptualne eksperymenty – destabilizują automatyzm widzenia i ujawniają, jak silna jest nasza potrzeba porządkowania rzeczywistości poprzez znaczenie. Wystawa nie opowiada więc o samych obiektach, lecz o procesie patrzenia, interpretowania i projektowania sensu.

Paweł Orłowski’s latest series is inspired by Hermann Rorschach’s tests — a projective method based on the interpretation of abstract inkblots. In the classic test, the image has no single meaning, yet it almost automatically triggers the viewer’s need to recognize and name what they see. It is precisely this mechanism of perception that becomes the starting point for the exhibition.

The title This Is Not a Form references René Magritte’s famous 1929 work Ceci n’est pas une pipe (This Is Not a Pipe). Like the surrealist artist, Orłowski challenges our habit of identifying an image with its meaning. His objects do not depict specific forms; rather, they become tools of projection, activating the viewer’s individual associations and interpretations.

The process begins with the creation of symmetrical ink impressions, which the artist then translates into the language of sculpture: he cuts them into sheet metal, welds them, and subjects them to pressure forming. A crucial role is played here by the tension between control and chance. The form remains partially unpredictable, resisting unambiguous recognition.

In contrast to Orłowski’s earlier geometric works, the new series represents a conscious departure from precise design and complete control over the object. The artist refrains from imposing meanings, leaving the viewer alone with the form and their own mechanism of interpretation.

The sculptures presented function as perceptual experiments — they destabilize the automatism of seeing and reveal how strong our need is to organize reality through meaning. The exhibition is therefore not about the objects themselves, but about the process of looking, interpreting, and projecting meaning.
