Arcydzieło Franza Kafki jest kanwą spektaklu muzycznego w Teatrze Bagatela.

Niesprecyzowana miejscowo i historycznie czasoprzestrzeń jest światem, w którym toczy się opowieść o bohaterze, którego Franz Kafka, zredukował – jak to oskarżonego – tylko do imienia i inicjału nazwiska. Józef K. z nieznanych sobie przyczyn ma nagle stanąć przed sądem, by tłumaczyć się z postępków, których nie popełnił.

Surrealistyczny Proces, pochodzącego z Pragi autora, należy do ścisłego kanonu literatury światowej. Genialna metafora totalitaryzmu jest także wybitnym obrazem samotności współczesnego człowieka, bezradnego wobec otaczającej go rzeczywistości. Fascynujący charakter tego utworu stał się wyzwaniem dla reżysera Jakuba Szydłowskiego, który proponuje Widzom Teatru Bagatela, spektakl muzyczny z librettem swojego autorstwa, oparty na prozie Kafki.

Atrakcyjnie współczesne, nie pozbawione groteskowego humoru i niekonwencjonalne odczytanie Procesu, uwypukla jego uniwersalność i ponadczasowość. Zróżnicowane melodyjnie songi dynamizują i komentują kafkowski świat, który nieodmiennie jest częścią naszej rzeczywistości.

A space-time that is neither geographically nor historically defined is the world in which the story unfolds of a protagonist whom Franz Kafka reduced – much like a defendant – to nothing more than a first name and the initial of his surname. For reasons unknown to him, Józef K. is suddenly to appear in court to answer for deeds he did not commit.

*The Surrealist Trial*, by the Prague-born author, is part of the core canon of world literature. This brilliant metaphor for totalitarianism is also a striking portrayal of the loneliness of modern man, who is powerless in the face of the reality that surrounds him. The fascinating nature of this work presented a challenge for director Jakub Szydłowski, who presents the audience at the Bagatela Theatre with a musical he has written himself, based on Kafka’s prose.

This strikingly contemporary, unconventional interpretation of *The Trial* – not without its touch of grotesque humour – highlights the work’s universality and timelessness. These melodically varied songs bring energy to and comment on the Kafkaesque world, which is invariably part of our reality.
